ポルシェ959は僕にとって格別思い出深い1台だ。 85年9月CG編集部に潜り込んだ僕が初めて書いた巻頭記事が、ヴァイザッパを訪ねた959の開発記だったからだ。 と言っても担当を命じられていたわけではなかった。何しろ名目はCGTVの手伝い要員。最初から戦力外である。 田辺憲一さんはもちろん小林彰太郎さんも一緒だった。 恐らく田辺さんが本誌リポートも担当することになっていたのだろう。実際この時959には指一本触れてない。運転席はおろか助手席にも座らせてもらえなかった。 でも僕は精力的に取材した。認められたい一心で。 80年代半ばのCG編集部はとにかくスタッフが多く、待っているだけではまったく仕事が回ってこなかった。自分で取りに行くしかない状況である。 帰国後おずおずと小林さんのデスクを訪ね、自分に書かせてください、と申し出た覚えがある。 一瞬怯んだ後、じゃやってみなさい、みたいな答えをもらったんだと思う。僕のリポートがヘボなときは、自分か田辺さんが書き直せばいい、と考えたんだろう。 何しろ同じ現場で同じものを見て、同じ話しを聞いているのだから。 実際リポートを書き始めると、このことが大きな
